A sampling of some educational storytelling work across the University of Delaware's Research Enterprise – from grant-funded work to student's summer research.

Space

Magnetic massive stars — a rare variety of bright, hot stars with powerful magnetic fields — are emerging as a promising laboratory for studying plasmas under extreme conditions. In this video, astronomer Matt Shultz of the University of Delaware explains how he and researcher Paolo Leto of the Catania (Italy) Astrophysical Observatory discovered critical data necessary for predicting the brightness of these stars and how UD’s Stan Owocki proposed a likely source of the energy required.

Clean Energy

Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology invented at the University of Delaware enables the batteries in electric vehicles to do more than charge – V2G enables otherwise idle batteries to share energy back to the electric grid when it's most needed.

Brain Research

University of Delaware neuroscientist Joshua Neunuebel and his team are learning how mice communicate — not an easy task, it turns out. They have developed a recording studio that allows them to record the interactions mice have and link specific mice with specific actions and specific sounds. Learning that code opens the door to new ways of studying the science of communication.

Shark sizing

University of Delaware marine science major Cara Lamberty is working to help understand the population dynamics of sand tiger sharks along the East Coast to advance conservation efforts for this globally vulnerable species. The project is in partnership with Spot A Shark USA, a citizen science research program led by North Carolina Aquariums, and the South-East Zoo Alliance for Reproduction and Conservation (SEZARC).
